Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Crystal Palace and England international defender Marc Guehi, however, they have failed to agree on a deal with the Seagulls thus far. Per The Athletic's David Ornstein, the Magpies saw their latest bid worth £60million (€70m/$76m) plus £5m in add-ons rejected as Palace want £70m (€81m/$91m) for the 24-year-old.

The report further claims that Newcastle have started to look for alternatives and have shortlisted two names: Bayer Leverkusen's Edson Tapsoba and Chelsea defender Axel Disasi. The French defender joined the Blues last summer and made 44 appearances across all competitions in his debut campaign. A summer hernia operation forced him to miss pre-season and he was not included in the matchday squad for Chelsea's 2024-25 opener against Manchester City.
DID YOU KNOW?
Disasi was not included in France's Euro 2024 squad, despite his encouraging start to life at Chelsea. Meanwhile, Burkina Faso defender Tapsoba appeared in 46 matches for Bayer Leverkusen in the 2023-24 season as the German side won the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal titles and reached the Europa League final.

It is not yet known when Disasi will return to action, but he is set to miss the first leg of their Europa Conference League play-off clash against Servette on Thursday. Guehi is fully fit, though, and will next be seen in action for Palace on Saturday against West Ham in the Premier League.
