Matip sustained the injury midway through the second half of Sunday's Premier League clash at Anfield and had to be replaced by Ibrahima Konate. Klopp says the extent of the issue is still unknown as the defender will have to have a scan, but he expects to be without him for some time.

Asked about Matip's condition in his post-match press conference, Klopp told reporters: "We lost today Joel and we have obviously no scan yet, but after all you hear and can see that will not be a short one. It's his knee. Unlucky, but we have to get through this."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The loss of Matip was a significant blow for Liverpool in the match at Anfield, which was tied at 2-2 at the time. Just over 10 minutes after he came on, Fulham scored a third goal and looked set to go on to claim the three points, only for Wataru Endo and Trent Alexander-Arnold to score and seal a 4-3 win for the home team.
