Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to slam Jon Flanagan and praise his replacement, Matt Polster, in the process.
The former Liverpool full-back started the game against Hearts on Sunday afternoon, but was substituted for Polster at half-time having picked up a yellow card in the first-half.
In the second-half, Polster – who had only made two substitute appearances prior to the trip to Tynecastle – emerged as Flanagan’s replacement and helped the Gers grab the opening goal as Ryan Kent fired high into the net.
However, disaster struck when Steven Naismith netted an equaliser, before debutant Liam Boyce scored in the 83rd minute to hand Steven Gerrard’s side a defeat and leave them five points behind Celtic in the title race.
Usually, James Tavernier starts at right-back, although the former Newcastle man was absent on Sunday which saw his normal replacement Flanagan make his fifth league start of the campaign.
However, judging by the tweets below, it seems like some supporters prefer Rangers’ third-choice right-back to the club’s second choice…
To kick off the reaction, this fan named Adam said that the American full-back was “showing he’s far superior” to his English counterpart, before adding that it’s just a “shame he’s not the manager’s mate” – we think that this supporter is implying that Gerrard is showing favouritism to Flanagan because of their days at Liverpool together, although that is merely speculation.
Elsewhere, both of these fans detailed their thoughts from the game in a nice, organised list.
Within their lists, they both made the point that Polster is better than Flanagan.
‘Rangers Zone’ tweeted “Flanagan – why was he playing over Polster?” whereas ‘Rampant Ryan Jack” simply used the ‘>’ symbol to state that the 26-year-old is better than the Liverpool academy graduate.
Meanwhile, ‘The 3 Bears’ used a GIF to describe their confusion as to why Flanagan starts ahead of Polster when Tavernier isn’t fit, such was the impressive nature of the rarely-seen man’s 45-minute cameo.
Lastly, Alan and Kevin both echoed the thoughts of the fans above.

Alan said “that game should see the end of Flanagan” whereas Kevin said that the American “deserves a chance after today” as he did “more than Flanagan”.
In other news, these Rangers fans have hammered this player who “can’t have had many worse games” than the one against Hearts…
